Let us play a game - Name that noise

Beitrag von AtLarge »

I now have an engine noise after rebuilding the starter clutch last springtime. :wallbash: Two actually: 1. on start up (and not always), 2. when rolling on the throttle, a rattle (steady at any speed is fine). I expect they are related as my bike did not do it before. Since the riding season is over I am contemplating going in again but, what am I looking for? Hope someone can recognize this sound 1. and tell me what it is caused by?

Hi AtLarge,

there is a spacer (92026) in use where the starter clutch sits.

Maybe you have fitted it in the wrong position ?

Starter clutch is working or does it slip from time to time ?
Then the screw may bacame loose.

Keep us updated ;)

Cheers, Michael

Thank you for the reply Michael. The starter clutch grabs quite well. No slip like before. If that spacer was missing do you think that would cause the rattle during throttle up? That sound in the video is almost like the chain is skipping.

Hello AtLarge,

what I believe to hear on youtube is a starter clutch stick-slip, its biting and loosing grip in short intervals. On my own bike I had this sound with a worn surface of the clutch gear.
